Where is Brittney visiting this week?

Brittney is visiting McLeod Farms in McBee, SC. McLeod Farms has been family-owned and operated since 1916, specializing in commercial peach production since the beginning. It is currently led by fourth-generation farmer Kemp McLeod, who learned the operation from his father Campbell. Kemp’s son, Spencer, a fifth-generation farmer, is also very involved with the farm as they work together to incorporate new precision ag technologies into their operations with the goal of increasing production and sustainability.

Even though Georgia is called “the Peach State”, South Carolina leads the Southeast in peach production. McLeod Farms contributes to this through their exclusive peach variety named Cary Mac. The farm has greatly diversified since the 1990s, adding in row crops like cottons, soybeans, and corn, along with seasonal produce like strawberries, blackberries, muscadine grapes, corn, squash, and onions.

All produce is sold through their roadside market on Hwy 151 and at the Pee Dee State Farmers Market. At the Hwy 151 location, they also offer a U-pick strawberry patch, U-pick pumpkin and flower patch, corn mazes, school field trips, and other agritourism activities for the family! If you happen to be passing through the Pee Dee, make sure to stop by the roadside market on Hwy 151 where you can have a delicious lunch at Big’s Meats, and then take a stroll through Mac’s Pride Antique Farm Museum.

This month’s spotlight is from Brittney King, Pee Dee Fruit and Vegetable Agent.
